Cheekwood engagement photos are hard to beat when you want a Nashville engagement session with beautiful gardens, historic architecture, and enough variety to create a gallery that never feels repetitive. For Laura and Dylan’s summer session, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens gave us all of that. We moved through manicured gardens, tree-lined paths, stone architecture, and pockets of greenery that felt completely different from one another.
This session was also especially meaningful because of how Laura and Dylan found me. I met them through Laura’s sister, who owns Styled Shoots Across America, so getting the opportunity to photograph these two together was incredibly special. Even better, this engagement session was just the best day. We explored the gardens, laughed a lot, and created photographs that felt polished without losing the two people at the center of them.
Why Cheekwood Engagement Photos Are a Favorite in Nashville
When couples ask me about engagement photo locations in Nashville, Cheekwood consistently sits near the top of my list. One of the biggest reasons is variety. You can move from romantic gardens to historic architecture and tree-lined pathways without ever leaving the property. That means we can create several distinct looks without spending half of your engagement session driving between locations.
Cheekwood also has a timeless quality that photographs beautifully. It feels refined without requiring the photographs themselves to feel overly formal. As a Nashville wedding photographer, that balance matters to me. I want your engagement photographs to feel elevated enough to complement your eventual wedding gallery while still feeling like the two of you. For couples drawn to fine art wedding photography, elegant wedding photography, or a more editorial approach, Cheekwood gives us an incredible setting to work with.
What Does It Cost to Take Engagement Photos at Cheekwood?
Unlike many public locations around Nashville, professional portrait photography at Cheekwood requires an advance reservation and photography fee. Currently, Cheekwood lists its portrait photography rate at $550 for non-members and $450 for Cheekwood members. The standard reservation includes two hours of photography and day-of admission for up to six guests. For non-members, the $550 fee also includes a dual Cheekwood membership for one year.
Couples should also know that weekend portrait sessions carry an additional $100 fee. Approved photography outside regular hours is currently an additional $100 per hour. Because Cheekwood can update its policies and pricing, I always recommend checking its current photography guidelines while planning your session. However, the two-hour reservation gives us plenty of time to explore different areas instead of rushing through a handful of photographs.
What You Get From a Cheekwood Engagement Session
The biggest advantage of choosing Cheekwood isn’t simply that it’s beautiful. It’s how much variety we can create within one engagement session. We can begin with something more refined and editorial near the architecture, move into the gardens for softer portraits, and then create more relaxed, movement-filled photographs as we explore the property.
That variety helps your finished gallery feel complete. Instead of receiving dozens of photographs that look like variations of the same image, you get different layers of the experience. Some photographs can feel polished. Others can be playful, quiet, romantic, or completely unplanned. As a Nashville luxury wedding photographer, that balance between intentional imagery and genuine moments is a major part of how I approach both engagement sessions and wedding days.
Laura and Dylan’s Summer Engagement Session at Cheekwood
Laura and Dylan’s Cheekwood engagement photos came to life during one of those beautiful Nashville summer days. The gardens were full, the grounds were green, and everywhere we turned gave us another opportunity to create something different. The gardens were full, the grounds were green, and everywhere we turned gave us another opportunity to create something different. However, the setting never became more important than Laura and Dylan themselves. Cheekwood gave us the backdrop; they gave the photographs their personality.
That distinction matters to me. Whether I’m photographing an engagement session or one of my Nashville weddings, I never want a beautiful location to become the entire story. The photographs should still feel unmistakably connected to the people in them. Laura and Dylan made that incredibly easy, and their gallery became the perfect combination of beautiful surroundings, intentional portraits, movement, laughter, and the smaller moments in between.
Cheekwood as a Nashville Wedding Venue
Beyond engagement sessions, Cheekwood is also an iconic Nashville wedding venue. Between its historic estate, gardens, architecture, and changing seasonal landscapes, the property offers couples an incredible amount of visual variety for a wedding day. It’s easy to understand why couples planning elevated Nashville weddings continue to be drawn to it.
From a photography perspective, Cheekwood also lends itself beautifully to Tennessee high-end wedding photography and luxury bridal photography. The architecture provides structure for more editorial portraits, while the gardens create space for softer and more organic imagery. For couples searching for a Nashville Fine Art Wedding Photographer, the property gives us the ability to create sophisticated photographs without sacrificing emotion or personality.
Engagement Photos That Still Feel Like You
A beautiful engagement location matters, but it should never determine what your photographs have to look like. Laura and Dylan’s session worked because Cheekwood provided the setting while we allowed their personalities to shape the photographs. Some moments were intentionally composed. Others happened simply because we kept moving and gave the two of them room to interact.
That same philosophy carries into my work as a Tennessee wedding photographer and Middle Tennessee wedding photographer. I offer direction when you need it, but I also know when to step back. The result is a gallery with both beautifully composed portraits and photographs that hold onto the expressions, movement, and moments you couldn’t have planned.
From Your Engagement Session to Your Wedding Day
An engagement session isn’t simply a practice run for your wedding. It’s one of the rare opportunities during wedding planning when the photographs can be entirely about the two of you. There isn’t a ceremony starting in twenty minutes or a reception timeline waiting. We have space to slow down, explore, and create photographs without rushing to the next part of the day.
It also gives us the opportunity to work together before your wedding. By the time the wedding arrives, you already know what it feels like to be photographed by me. That familiarity is valuable whether I’m working as a Luxury wedding photographer in Tennessee or a Traveling wedding photographer for a destination celebration. My approach to Bespoke wedding photography stays consistent: thoughtful direction when it’s useful and space for real moments when it’s not.
Planning a Luxury Wedding in Tennessee or Beyond
Every couple defines an elevated wedding experience differently. For some, it means an intimate celebration at an incredible property. For others, it means a full wedding weekend surrounded by everyone they love. Either way, the photography should reflect more than the design choices. Beautiful details deserve to be documented, but so do the people, conversations, reactions, and moments happening around them.
That’s why my approach to Exclusive wedding photography combines refined portraits with the less predictable parts of the day. Whether you’re searching for an Upscale wedding photographer Tennessee, Premium wedding photographer Tennessee, or a Luxury destination wedding photographer Tennessee, the goal shouldn’t be photographs that simply look expensive. They should feel personal. That’s what turns beautiful wedding photographs into something worth keeping.

If you’re considering Cheekwood engagement photos—or simply looking for a location that gives you room to create something beautiful and personal—I would love to hear what you’re envisioning.
