The practice of displaying a bridal portrait at the wedding reception is still popular today, and you’ll need to schedule a bridal portrait shoot if you wish to do so. A bridal portrait shoot will provide you with tangible images to carry on your wedding day.

Bridal portraits are photographs taken several months before a wedding in which brides wear their gowns for a solo photo shoot in a location of their choice.  The bride can give print photos as gifts to her husband, parents, or grandparents. It’s a present and a memory they’ll cherish long after the wedding day has passed.

Bridal portrait sessions are designed to allows you to express yourself creatively. Don’t limit yourself to just wearing your gown and holding a bunch of flowers in your hands. Request assistance from your photographer in creating a shoot that matches your personality and hobbies.

Why Should You Say Yes to Bridal Portraits?

You may believe that the bridal session will put a strain on your finances. However, if you continue reading this post, you will realize why you should arrange a bridal session.

  • Your bridal portraits will be just as stunning as you are on your wedding day. If brides are unhappy with their bridal session preparations, they can easily change their looks on the wedding day.
  • Aside from hair and makeup, you’ll be able to try out a lot more such as your veil has too much pouf, your dress has one spot where the beading is rubbing under your arm, your earrings are too heavy, or don’t show as much as you’d like.
  • It’s when you order a floral bouquet and specify whether you want the color of the flowers to change on the wedding day or if you want a different bouquet.
  • Brides always have issues with timeliness, exhaustion, and stress on their wedding day. The bridal portrait during the bridal session always turns out better than the photos taken on the wedding day.
  • You might present your elders with a portrait of the couple as a gift. It’s the ideal way to complement your parents and grandparents.
  • Choose an ideal photo of you and your fiancé to pass down to your children and grandkids as a legacy.
  • You can take bridal portraits in a beautiful location, you can choose a location different than your wedding venue
  • You can get amazing photos that you won’t be able to do on your wedding day due to the rushed schedule. Because you don’t have any worry or stress, you’ll be more relaxed.

Where Should You Have Your Bridal Portraits Taken?

Traditionally, bridal portrait sessions took place in a studio. Similar to engagement shoots, brides nowadays like dramatic outdoor photos. If it is permissible, you may prefer to take your bridal portrait session in the location of your wedding because it will be sentimental. Otherwise, you can visit any favorite location, such as your backyard, a nearby park, a conservatory, or city streets.

When Is the Best Time to Book for Bridal Portrait Session?

A bridal portrait session occurs a month or two before the wedding day, near enough for the bride to adjust her gown and be ready for the big day. If they become dirty or ripped during the shot, there should be adequate time to clean them. The goal of a bridal portrait session is for the bride to look as similar to her wedding day look as possible, so don’t make any significant changes to your style between the shoot and the wedding. If you’re having your bridal portraits taken outside, plan for a rain date in case the weather turns bad.

Who Will Be Present in the Bridal Portrait Session?

Aside from your professional photographer, to ensure a great shoot, you’ll need to recruit the help of a few more wedding providers, which you should figure into your budget because they’ll almost surely entail additional costs. You’ll need your wedding gown, so be sure your bridal salon or seamstress is aware of your timeline. You should also bring your hairstylist and makeup artist, as this will be a perfect opportunity to practice your wedding-day hair and makeup. You might also want your florist to make you a bouquet to hold during your photos, identical to the one you’ll wear on your wedding day.

Bridal Portrait Tips

Brides typically inquire about what they should do to prepare for their bridal portrait session. Here are some of my best tips for getting ready:

  • Make a schedule and plan ahead of time. Engagement sessions and bridal portrait sessions fill up quickly on every photographer’s calendar, especially in the spring and fall. You should schedule your bridal portrait session at least one month before your wedding day if you wish to print and show any of your bridal portraits at your wedding reception.
  • Take a look at a weekday. I understand that taking time off work before your wedding day for a portrait session isn’t ideal, but most venues aren’t accessible for rental on weekends. And weddings take up the majority of photographer’s weekends. So, for maximum flexibility, schedule your appointment on a weekday.
  • Rent a venue and have a rain plan.  When it comes to bridal portraits, there are a lot of moving factors. Booking a venue for your bridal portrait session is the greatest method to avoid having to reschedule due to weather.
  • Arrange a trial session for hair and makeup. It’s a good idea to get your hair and makeup done by the same team that will be doing it on your wedding day for your bridal photos so you can get a sense of how you’ll look on the big day. In addition, the same team will ensure your comfort on your wedding day.
  • Wear a pair of comfortable shoes. You can wear a certain pair of shoes for your wedding day if we’re shooting indoors. Keep them in top condition for your wedding day detail shots.
  • Bring your veils and jewelry. If you’re still undecided about what to wear on your wedding day, now is a good opportunity to bring all of your selections to see what looks best in photos.
  • Place an order for a bouquet. Check with your wedding florist to see if a complimentary bridal portrait bouquet is included in their cost. If you don’t have one, that’s fine; just remember to bring a bouquet to complete your bridal ensemble.

Last Thoughts

The bridal session is a fantastic warm-up! Make a list of anything that would need to be changed on the wedding day. Before putting your dress away for the next several weeks, give it a thorough inspection. If there are any particles of grass, pine straw, or leaves adhering to the hem, make sure they’re removed so the dress doesn’t get stained. You have plenty of time to switch up your necklace or freshen up your hair and cosmetics. For fun, some women choose a completely different makeup and hairstyle for their bridals. It’s all up to you and how you want to feel in your bridal portrait.
